"The Time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament will be the best and most profitable time you will spend here on Earth...
Each moment that you spend with Jesus will deepen your union with Him and make you soul everlastingly more glorious and beautiful in heaven, and will help bring about everlasting peace on Earth.
-St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta
ADORATION IS A SIGN OF DEVOTION TO AND WORSHIP OF JESUS CHRSIT, WHO IS PRESENT IN BODY, BLOOD, SOUL AND DIVINITY UNDER THE APPREARANCE OF THE CONSECRATED HOST.
AS A DEVOTION, EUCHARISTIC ADORATION, PRAYER, AND MEDITATION ARE MORE THAN MERELY LOOKING AT THE BLESSED HOST, BUT IS A CONTINUATION OF WHAT WAS CELEBRATED IN THE EUCHARIST
Divine Providence Perpetual Eucharistic
Adoration Chapel
In 2005, Fr. Gary Kaiser was assigned to Precious Blood as a seminarian. During that time there was a lot of talk about moving the Adoration Chapel from the Providence Home to Precious Blood. Fr. John Breidenbaugh, pastor of Precious Blood Parish at the time, asked Fr. Gary to join him to take a look at the chapel in the Sisters of Divine Providence convent to see if it would be a good place to have an adoration chapel.
Fr. Gary was named pastor of Precious Blood Parish in 2009. Shortly after being assigned to Precious Blood, he received a call from Fr. Angelo, chaplain of the Providence Home. Fr. Angelo, because of his age, health and plans to leave the area, asked Fr. Gary if he would be willing to take over the Adoration Chapel. Fr. Gary agreed.
At the time the Adoration Chapel was open three partial days. It was the goal to provide perpetual adoration for the entire Dubois county area. Parish representatives from all county parishes were invited to attend a meeting at Precious Blood. At that meeting a committee was put together to begin organizing, coordinating, and preparing for the Adoration Chapel on the Precious Blood Campus.
In December of 2009, adoration was available at the Sisters Providence Chapel at the Precious Blood Campus for those hours which adorers had signed up at the Providence Home.
On January 1, 2010, the Sisters Providence Chapel was officially open for all the people of Dubois County.
On October 1, 2010, the chapel was named The Divine Providence Perpetual Eucharist Adoration Chapel. The chapel was now open for perpetual adoration: twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The only time the Eucharist is not exposed is during the Triduum and this is according to Church guidelines.
Through the years students from our Catholic school have been introduced to the Adoration Chapel. Many teachers have brought their students to spend some time in the chapel. Some students have introduced their families to the chapel. People from all across the country come to visit and spend time with the Blessed Sacrament. Seminarians from nearby St. Meinrad Seminary often come to pray in the chapel.
An interesting point is that even non-Catholics come to the chapel to pray in this holy place.
As of May 17, 2021, there are 294 hourly adorers. There are some adorers that are scheduled one hour per week or month. Other adorers have more than one hour per week. It is up to the individual how many hours and which day/s they would like to be scheduled.
There are 103 substitute adorers. Substitute adorers may choose which day and hour they are available to substitute. A current substitute list is e-mailed monthly to those adorers that have submitted their e-mail address. A list of substitutes can also be found in the chapel.
Fr. Brian Emmick is currently the priest that oversees the Chapel and the Adoration Committee. Bonnie Meadows is the Head Coordinator maintaining the daily operations of the Chapel and Adoration Committee through the guidance of Fr. Brian. There are many others that help keep the chapel running smoothly and for them we are grateful.
